Chief of Police - Mercy Health - Lorain Hospital

Plans direct and supervises the daily operation and administration of the Police, Security, Operators/ Communication, and Emergency Management functions for all Mercy Lorain Health Partners and associated facilities. Oversees access control, CCTV surveillance, and Identification oriented technology. Responsible for providing support to market emergency preparedness efforts, this includes, but is not limited to developing plans & procedures, presenting training & exercises, writing reports, and coordinating efforts throughout the market. Represents Mercy Lorain's Market in dealings with local, regional, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency preparedness entities. Oversee and monitor all daily information system operations, coordinating with both internal and external customers in providing optimum efficient services. Train and mentor all telecommunications operators for Mercy Lorain on BSMH departmental policies, procedures, and protocols as they pertain to the communications department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

OPOTA certified

EDUCATION:

Associate and/or Bachelor's Degree preferred. Major: Criminal Justice

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years’ prior experience in the law enforcement and/or security field is required.

Three to five years of supervisory and/or management experience are required.

First aid, CPR, and ASP Baton certification preferred.

Computer literacy at an intermediate level of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required.

ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Ohio driver's license.

Successfully qualify with duty weapons as directed to maintain State and/or Departmental requirements.

Successfully qualify with an ECD per Police Department policy and procedure.

Complete AED-CPR training as per Police Department policy and procedure

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must comply with Police Department requirements related to protective equipment, body cameras, and body armor.

REQUIRE KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

Must be familiar with LEADS and NCIC computer functions

  1. How to request this service from a Police Agency.

  2. Must maintain current OPOTA status and take a refresher and additional classes as they become mandatory.

  3. Must successfully qualify with a firearm as scheduled by the department

  4. Has a clear understanding of arrest and search and seizure.

  5. Display good judgment.

  6. Possess knowledge of laws, and ordinances and knows how to efficiently use the Ohio Criminal Code.

  7. Display positive service-oriented and customer-friendly behaviors

  8. Understanding of paperwork, processing after a felony, minor misdemeanors, and misdemeanors arrest.

  9. Knowledgeable in policy and procedure manual especially use of force.

  10. Understanding evidence handling and demonstrating the legal-chain-of-custody process.

  11. Crime scene protection as per state law enforcement requirements.

  12. Understanding of Municipal and County court system.

  13. Knowledge of how to file lawful criminal charges.

  14. Ability to appear in court as needed.

  15. Operate police cruiser and comply with BSMH driver's License Policy.

  16. Perform comprehensive investigation on reported incident reports.

  17. Demonstrate effective and safe traffic control measures.

  18. Key control-lock and unlock doors as needed.

  19. Comply with annual organizational educational requirements and OPOTA (CPT) law enforcement competency- skill requirements.

  20. Maintain current CPR and annual AED and ECD certification status.

Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate in a courteous, respectful, and direct manner. Requires effective listening skills to maintain cooperative associations.
